    Speaker – Sigvard T. Hansen, MD, FAAOS

    Dr. Sigvard T. Hansen has often been called the “father of modern traumatology.” His innovations of aggressive and expeditious orthopedic care of patients revolutionized the field of foot and ankle surgery. With over 40 years of surgical experience, Hansen has seen it all. He has influenced many physicians with his unflinching accounts of true cases with a voice that is both candid and compelling. Hansen is professor at the University of Washington and Director of the Sigvard T. Hansen Foot and Ankle Institute in Seattle. Returning to the ACFAS podium, Hansen’s passion and energetic style will set the stage for discovering foot and ankle intelligence at the ACFAS 2010 Annual Scientific Conference.

It will include a discussion of medical malpractice and the legal and financial implications of allegations of failure to refer, common risks associated with failure to timely refer, situations in which the podiatrists should consider referral, the benefits of collaborative care, and optimizing the referral process. The lecture will also address the podiatrist’s responsibilities when acting in the role of a consultant. Actual case examples will be presented.
