Division 13 Membership Meeting at ASC

ACFAS Division 13 Director Newsletter, Winter 2012

Happy Holidays from ACFAS Division 13! Thanks to all who attended the ACFAS Forefoot Seminar in Louisville in September. It was a great success and we had a lot of participation from all the attendees.

Here are a few updates from the Division:
• Resident applications for Annual Scientific Conference (ASC) grants are due Dec. 31. Preference is given to residents who are manuscript or poster presenters and who do not receive CME funding from their residency program. Please email Dr. Martha Anderson, Division 13 President, for additional information.
• We are still planning to implement an e-journal club for the division, but are having trouble finding a suitable electronic format that is not Apple or PC specific…we still hope to start this soon as we have only a couple of options left to explore.
• We will be purchasing a set of ACFAS surgical videos for the ACFAS Student Club at Kent State.
• We are also sponsoring a $1,000 scholarship to the ASC in Las Vegas (in addition to the Merz grants for each school) for one student member from the ACFAS Student Club at Kent State. The 2013 winner is Jessica Preston, second-year student. Congratulations, Jessica!

Upcoming meetings within the Division:
• NWOAPM Scientific Seminar at Kalahari Resort  in Sandusky, Ohio—January 17-19
• ACFAS 2013 ASC in Las Vegas—February 10-14
• Division 13 Membership Meeting at the ASC: Wednesday, February 13, 1-2 PM, in the exhibit hall
• North Central Ohio Academy No Nonsense Seminar in Cleveland, Ohio—March 8-10
• Grant Foot and Ankle Conference—April 27

Dues

A portion of ACFAS member dues is allocated for Division activities. Divisions use these funds to further the goals of ACFAS at the state and local level: to promote the superior care of foot and ankle surgical patients through education, research and promotion of the highest professional standards. Divisions also work on outreach to students and residents, helping to give them a successful start in their careers as foot and ankle surgeons.

Divisions are affiliate organizations of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons; they are granted a charter and license to use the ACFAS name and logo. They are mandated by their own articles of incorporation and bylaws, and remain separate entities from the parent organization.

For more information about Division activities, please contact Michelle Brozell, Director of Membership.
