ACFAS Division 9 Supports Student Scholars to the Annual Scientific Conference

The Division Presidents Council recently approved creation of the "Division Scholars": students chosen from each of the nine podiatric medical schools deemed future leaders and deserving of a scholarship to attend the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference.

The ACFAS Division 9 Scholar for 2013 was Prakash Panchani, from NYCPM (pictured with Eric Walter, DPM, FACFAS, Division 9 President).

Congratulations to Prakash on being chosen as an ACFAS 2013 Division Scholar!

ACFAS Divisions Create Standardized Support of Resident Poster/Manuscripts Submitters to ASC

In an effort to better support resident poster and manuscript presenters in their attendance at the Annual Scientific Conference (ASC), the ACFAS Regional Divisions have created a standardized process so residents throughout the country have access to funding from their Division.

Some of the rules created are:

  • Support will be equal for all Divisions: poster submitters are eligible for $250; and manuscript presenters are eligible for $500. The actual number of awards provided may vary by Division, year to year, and will be determined on an annual basis.
  • All interested residents should complete an application to be considered for support
  • Posters must be submitted to the Division digitally, to be posted on the Division's website
  • If your poster is accepted for funding, you are expected to attend the ASC as well as the Division Membership Meeting at the conference

The Divisions are excited to be able to offer this support to residents. Once the poster deadline of October 15 has passed, this offering will be advertised directly to ACFAS Resident Members.

Division Goals for First Half of 2013

  • Division Dinner Meetings: January, March and June 2013
  • Cadaver Workshop - April 2013
  • Support of Wound Care / Vascular Conference - May 2013
  • Residency Program Scholarships

Dues

A portion of ACFAS member dues is allocated for Division activities. Divisions use these funds to further the goals of ACFAS at the state and local level: to promote the superior care of foot and ankle surgical patients through education, research and promotion of the highest professional standards. Divisions also work on outreach to students and residents, helping to give them a successful start in their careers as foot and ankle surgeons.

Divisions are affiliate organizations of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons; they are granted a charter and license to use the ACFAS name and logo. They are mandated by their own articles of incorporation and bylaws, and remain separate entities from the parent organization.

For more information about Division activities, please contact Michelle Brozell, Director of Membership.
