Research Requirements:

• At least two submitted manuscripts to an academic, peer-reviewed journal per fellowship year
• A minimum of one manuscript/poster to the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference.

Program Summary/Training Goals:
The Orthopaedic Institute Brielle Orthopedics Foot and Ankle Fellowship is a comprehensive foot and ankle program in the setting of a high-volume orthopedic group practice with the goals of polishing the fellow’s clinical and surgical skills and developing future leaders of the profession. This fellowship requires a self-motivated and driven individual. There is a heavy emphasis on arthroscopy, trauma, hindfoot and forefoot reconstruction, sports medicine, and total joint replacement. By the conclusion of the fellowship year, the fellow is expected to be proficient and autonomous in managing all foot and ankle pathologies of the foot and ankle in both the outpatient and inpatient setting.

• The fellow will perform over 600 surgical procedures per fellowship year.
• The fellow will treat and manage outpatients at the multiple offices of the orthopedic group practice and perform the majority of surgical procedures at an outpatient surgical center.
• The fellow will participate in foot and ankle ER call schedule every other month with a heavy emphasis on ankle/hindfoot trauma
• The fellow will manage occasional inpatients at Jersey Shore University Medical Center
• The fellow will become efficient in surgical and office billing/coding, and will learn how to manage workers compensation, independent medical examinations, and need for treatment cases.
• The fellow is expected to prepare and present academic lectures for state meetings and national conferences.
• The fellow will have many opportunities to attend fellow-specific surgical and practice management courses throughout the academic year, as well as, become involved in novel research activities that will benefit the podiatric profession.
