Our Strategic Initiatives
To achieve the vision and mission, ACFAS membership surveys have identified six strategic initiatives:

  1. Deliver superior continuing medical education to enhance competency at every level of professional training.
  2. Define and promote the specialty of foot and ankle surgery to patients, government, the media, and the healthcare community at large.
  3. Advance scientific and clinical research to maintain leading edge competency among our members.
  4. Represent the specialty in all practice settings through public advocacy.
  5. Improve the surgeon’s practice management expertise in all settings.
  6. Employ strategic governance and adopt the best practices of medical association management.

To achieve our six strategic initiatives, the College will:

  1. Deliver superior continuing medical education to enhance competency at every level of professional training.
    1. Continue as the preeminent source of CME for the practicing foot and ankle surgeon.
    2. Champion the cause of continually enhancing the post-doctoral education process to advance the cause of professional equality. 
    3. Become an active participant in the pre-doctoral surgical education process to advance the cause of professional parity.
    4. Advocate and assist in the development of post-doctoral fellowships to advance physician expertise and to advance the cause of professional parity.

  2. Define and promote the specialty of foot and ankle surgery to patients, government, the media, and the healthcare community at large.
    1. Build consumer awareness of the specialized training of our members.
    2. Promote the specialty to appropriate physician and healthcare organizations.
    3. Define and differentiate the surgical specialty.
    4. Proactively interact with public policy governing bodies and the healthcare community.
    5. Promote students and resident membership and involvement in the College.

  3. Advance scientific and clinical research to maintain leading edge competency among our members.
    1. Publish and enhance the prestigious Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery.
    2. Support and fund the development of research endeavors.
    3. Promote a clinical measurement instrument to quantify both subjective and objective parameters in prospective clinical investigations of the foot and ankle.
    4. Create and publish Clinical Consensus Statements (CCS's).

  4. Represent the specialty in all practice settings through public advocacy.
    1. Represent the specialty to accrediting organizations and assist members with credentialing and privileging issues.
    2. Provide assistance and advocacy on state legislative and regulatory issues.
    3. Represent the specialty to public and private insurance companies.

  5. Improve the surgeon’s practice management expertise in all settings.
    1. Deliver targeted, high quality practice management education and services as identified in the practice management core competencies.

  6. Employ strategic governance and adopt the best practices of medical association management.
    1. Stay member-focused and proactive through knowledge based governance and continuous member needs assessment.
    2. Ensure sound financial management for annual and long-term needs.
    3. Maintenance and enhancement of membership.
    4. Proactively monitor and prepare for external risks that could seriously jeopardize our specialty, profession and organization.
    5. Ensure highly-qualified, diversity of our leadership and staff.
    6. Ensure a highly-trained diverse staff, competent in medical association management.
    7. Continuously upgrade the use of technology in member communications.
