CHICAGO (March 25, 2021) - Foot and ankle surgeon Eric G. Walter, DPM, FACFAS, of Rockville Center, New York is the recipient of the 2021 American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeon's (ACFAS) Distinguished Service Award, one of the College's highest honors. Dr. Walter is the eighteenth recipient of this distinguished honor and was presented with the award at the annual member business meeting on March 4, 2021. The ACFAS Board of Directors presents this award each year to recognize those members who volunteer their time, expertise and service behind the scenes to help enhance the College's mission to advance the profession of foot and ankle surgery for the benefit of the patients they serve.
Immediate past ACFAS President Scott Nelson, DPM, FACFAS, shares, "I have had the pleasure of seeing Eric Walter lead our Regions Presidents Council and serve on the Board of Directors. His work ethic, creative ideas and personal skills exemplify the qualities of this award and I am proud to be able to give him this award." He adds, "I look forward to his continued work with the College in the future."
As this year's winner, Dr. Walter was surprised and humbled to receive the award but credits the College's board and commitment to education as the main motivator behind his dedication. "Everyone involved in the College is plugged in and willing to put in the time and energy. From the leadership and staff down to the members-everyone involved is enthusiastic and willing to give back to the profession." He adds, "Being involved in residency education and knowing that education is the College's main drive and purpose keeps me dedicated."
Dr. Walter is a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon and practices in Bronx, New York where he is an assistant professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center. He is also a Fellow Member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
Dr. Walter holds a podiatric medical degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine in New York where he also completed his residency at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals. Dr. Walter has been heavily involved in residency education and active in the College's Region groups and Board of Directors.
