Dr. Richard Derner Installed as President of National Surgical Society

Phoenix - February 20, 2015- Richard M. Derner, DPM, FACFAS, is now the 64th president of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS), a national association of more than 7,000 foot and ankle surgeons. Dr. Derner was installed as president during ACFAS' Annual Scientific Conference in Phoenix.

The ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference, the largest educational meeting for foot and ankle surgeons in the U.S., draws attendees from around the world to discuss the most current techniques and technology for treatment of deformities, diseases and injuries of the foot and ankle.

"ACFAS is committed to advancing the foot and ankle surgery profession, and I am honored to represent this respected organization and to serve the needs of my fellow members," said Dr. Derner. "I am thrilled to work closely with the College this year to expand professional and educational opportunities for foot and ankle surgeons and to help our members improve patient outcomes."

Dr. Derner practices at Lake Ridge and Stafford Foot & Ankle Centers in Virginia and is board-certified in both foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

After earning his podiatric medical degree from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, he completed a three-year podiatric surgical residency at Highlands Center Hospital/Doctors Hospital in Denver, as well as a fellowship in Traumatology at Saint Elizabethan Hospital in Ravensburg, Germany.

Dr. Derner's research has been published in several podiatric medical and surgical journals, and he frequently lectures at foot and ankle surgery conferences nationwide. A Fellow Member of ACFAS, Dr. Derner is also a section editor for ACFAS' Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery and an adjunct professor at Temple College of Podiatric Medicine.
