Dr. Richard Derner to Serve as President-Elect of National Surgical Society

Orlando February 28, 2014 Richard M. Derner, DPM,FACFAS, was recently named president-elect of the 7,000-member American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS). Dr. Derner was installed to his position at the ACFAS 72nd Annual Scientific Conference in Orlando, Florida.

The ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference, the largest educational meeting for foot and ankle surgeons in the U.S., draws attendees from around the world to discuss the most current techniques and technology for treatment of deformities, diseases and injuries of the foot and ankle.
 

"I am honored to continue my service on the ACFAS Board of Directors this year as president elect and the following year as president. These are very exciting and progressive times for our profession and the patients we serve and I am looking forward to helping lead such a dynamic group into the future of foot and ankle surgery," Dr.Derner said.

Dr. Derner is in private practice at Lake Ridge Foot and Ankle Center/Stafford Foot and Ankle Center in Lake Ridge and Stafford, Virginia and is board certified in both foot surgery and reconstructive rear foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He serves as an adjunct professor at Temple College of Podiatric Medicine and is a past president of the Virginia Podiatric Medical Association and Northern Virginia Podiatric Medical Association.
 

Dr. Derner earned his podiatric medical degree from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, followed by a podiatric surgical residency at the Highlands Center Hospital/Doctors Hospital in Denver and a fellowship in Traumatology at Saint Elizabethan Hospital in Ravensburg, Germany.
