Dr. Scott Nelson Becomes President of National Surgical Society

SAN ANTONIO, (February 20, 2020)-Scott Nelson, DPM, FACFAS, took office today as the 69th president of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS), a national association of more than 7,700 foot and ankle surgeons, during its Annual Scientific Conference in San Antonio.

The Annual ACFAS Scientific Conference, the largest educational meeting for foot and ankle surgeons in the US, draws attendees from around the world to discuss the most current techniques and technology for treatment of deformities, diseases and injuries of the foot and ankle.

"I am extremely honored to accept the role of president and lead the College at such an exciting time," said Dr. Nelson. "I look forward to working alongside our new CEO and the ACFAS Board of Directors to continue advancing the College's mission and serving the membership to help enhance and move our profession forward," he added.

Dr. Nelson is a foot and ankle surgeon with Catholic Health Initiative in Omaha, NE. He is board-certified in both foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and a Fellow Member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. 

Dr. Nelson holds a podiatric medical degree from Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, IA, and completed his residency at both The Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh and the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Mary's, OH. Dr. Nelson frequently lectures on foot and ankle surgery, and his research has been published in numerous journals and textbooks.
