Dr. Thomas Roukis to Serve as President-Elect of National Surgical Society

Thomas S. Roukis, DPM, PhD, FACFAS, was recently named president-elect of the 6,800-member American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS). Dr. Roukis was installed to his position at the ACFAS 71st Annual Scientific Conference in Las Vegas.

The ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference, the largest educational meeting for foot and ankle surgeons in the U.S., draws attendees from around the world to discuss the most current techniques and technology for treatment of deformities, diseases and injuries of the foot and ankle.

Dr. Roukis said, "I am honored to continue to serve the members of this premier organization and to represent the professional and educational interests of my fellow foot and ankle surgeons as president-elect. ACFAS is dedicated to the advancement of our profession and making a difference for the specialty of foot and ankle surgery. I am passionate about being a part of such an organization."

Dr. Roukis practices in the Department of Orthopaedics, Podiatry, and Sports Medicine in the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin where he directs podiatric surgery resident education. Dr. Roukis is board-certified in both foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.

Dr. Roukis earned his podiatric medical degree from the California College of Podiatric Medicine. He followed with a three-year podiatric surgical residency at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, an AO International Trauma Fellowship in Germany, plus an ACFAS Divison-14 European Fellowship in Germany and Switzerland, and a one-year Reconstructive Foot & Ankle Research and Surgery Fellowship at the Weil Foot and Ankle Institute in Des Plaines, Illinois.

Dr. Roukis has received numerous awards and scholarships related to research and clinical expertise in foot and ankle surgery and served as principal or co-investigator on 19 clinical trials and scientific studies. He has published over 155 peer-reviewed scientific articles, seven textbook chapters, and given more than 290 oral and poster presentations nationally and internationally.
