CHICAGO— March 2, 2012-- In ceremonies today, Thomas S. Roukis, DPM, PhD, FACFAS was named secretary-treasurer of the 6,500-member American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS). Dr. Roukis was installed as secretary-treasurer at the ACFAS 70th Annual Scientific Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
The ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference, the largest educational meeting for foot and ankle surgeons in the U.S., draws attendees from around the world to discuss the most current techniques and technology for treatment of deformities, diseases and injuries of the foot and ankle.
“It is an honor to be elected to the ACFAS board of directors and I look forward to serving my fellow colleagues and patients at the College,” said Dr. Roukis. “ACFAS is an organization making a difference for the specialty of foot and ankle surgery and I am passionate about being a part of such an organization so dedicated to the advancement of our profession,” he added.
Dr. Roukis practices at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center Department of Orthopaedics, Podiatry and Sports Medicine in La Crosse, Wisconsin and is board certified in both foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He serves as faculty for the Academy of Ambulatory Foot and Ankle Surgery, adjunct assistant professor at Midwestern University/College of Health Sciences and a clinical assistant professor at the California School of Podiatric Medicine at the Samuel Merritt University.
Dr. Roukis earned his podiatric medical degree from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, followed by a podiatric surgical residency at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin and fellowships at the St. Vincenz & Elizabeth Hospital, Mainz, Germany and the Weil Foot & Ankle Institute in Des Plaines, Illinois.
