Research Requirements:
The fellow will have the opportunity to conduct research under the direction of Alexandra Black DPM, AACFAS. The fellow will produce original research (primarily clinically oriented) that results in publication in a peer reviewed journal or national presentation. The fellowship will provide support for the fellow to attend the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference to present the research completed over the course of the year.


Program Summary/Training Goals:

  • The fellowship program is sponsored by Foot & Ankle Specialists of Central Ohio. This is a seven physician practice with multiple office locations and hospital affiliations. The fellowship will have three areas of emphasis: reconstructive foot & ankle surgery, diabetic limb salvage/wound care, and practice management. The fellowship is fluid such that a fellow may elect to focus on a particular area of interest if desired. However the fellow will receive extensive instruction in all three areas. A Certificate of Fellowship Completion in Reconstructive Foot & Ankle Surgery will be awarded at the completion of the fellowship.
  • The foot & ankle fellowship is designed for a higher level of understanding in the diagnosis and treatment of foot & ankle disorders. During their training, fellows will gain experience, expertise and dexterity to use the most current, evidence-based methodology and utilize state-of-the-art technology and tactics. The fellow will receive training in total ankle replacement, minimally invasive surgery, diagnostic msk ultrasound, and orthoplastic surgery.
  • At the completion of their training, the fellows will be highly competent in performing reconstructive foot & ankle surgery. They will also gain experience and judgment to care for the patient at all stages of their clinical course.
