The transition from residency or fellowship to attending physician is one of the most significant financial inflection points in a medical career. Increased income, new employee benefits, student loan decisions, insurance needs, and competing financial priorities can create both opportunities and challenges. This session will provide a practical framework for evaluating compensation packages, prioritizing financial goals, managing lifestyle inflation, and making informed decisions around savings, debt repayment, and risk management. Attendees will leave with actionable strategies to help build a strong financial foundation and make the most of their transition into attending practice.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the key financial decisions that arise during the transition from training to attending practice.
  • Evaluate compensation packages, workplace benefits, and common employment considerations.
  • Prioritize competing financial goals, including student loans, emergency savings, retirement contributions, and major purchases.
  • Identify risk management and protection strategies appropriate for early-career attending physicians.
