From Modest Beginnings to a Bright Future

2022 marked the 80^th anniversary of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. The ACFAS story is a classic American tale of modest beginnings, a hard-fought evolution and a bright future. And the story has 10,000 characters—all of the Fellows and Associate members over 80 years—who transformed chiropody into foot and ankle surgery and changed the history of American medicine.

This story is told through the book—The Evolution of a Profession: The First 75 Years of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Written by historian Kenneth Durr, PhD, with Jerome S. Noll, DPM, FACFAS, the book is available to members in print and online (see below). Numerous appendices include a list of all known regular members since 1942.
