The American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) believes residency directors in Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) approved programs should be board-certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS). Residency directors should show an example of excellence, compassion, scholarship, and leadership to both residents and faculty alike.
Residency directors should promote an environment of inclusion and diversity within the program and faculty. Residency directors should ensure that graduating residents are adequately trained and competent within foot and ankle clinical decision making, medical knowledge, production and analysis of medical and surgical research and surgical skills to the community and collaborating with other medical specialties.
