Program Summary/Training Goals:
  • The purpose of this fellowship is to provide the post-graduate podiatric surgeon with advanced training in adult and pediatric foot and ankle reconstruction, sports medicine in an active patient population, total ankle replacement and management of acute and chronic complex foot and ankle trauma in the Mainline’s largest orthopaedic group. The program will be based at Tower Health facilities and Paoli Hospital/Main Line Health Systems, which has become Chester County's primary trauma center, providing the Fellow with on-call opportunities for foot and ankle trauma.
  • The Fellow will become adept at ankle replacement, including preoperative planning considerations with several different ankle prostheses in conjunction with various reconstructive techniques performed along with or in deference to replacement.
  • The Fellow will be immersed in practice management, billing and marketing of their skills on a daily basis and will leave the program more than prepared for practice in any environment they choose from a multi-specialty group to academic health systems as past fellows have shown and succeeded in all environments.
  • The Fellow will be expected to follow evidence-based medicine practices and perform research consistent with the aforementioned areas of concentration.
  • The Fellow will perform about half or more of his or her cases at Premier at Exton Surgery Center, opened on September 2016 and Paoli Hospital, which has been awarded the prestigious Premier Award for Quality and is ranked among the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals© by Thomas Reuters. The hospital has also been designated a Magnet Hospital by the American Nursing Credentialing Board and is Joint Commission accredited. Recently, Paoli Hospital finished a 259,000-square-foot facility to house its new evidence-based design trauma center, operating rooms and patient wings that doubled the hospital’s size. Even more significantly, the hospital is a partner in a progressive international research initiative, the Pebble Project. This unique and modern setting allows the Premier Orthopedics a unique opportunity to train a foot and ankle fellow using the latest equipment, current techniques and most advanced orthopaedic facilities in the Northeast region.
