Research Requirements:
- Fellow directed monthly journal club article review
- Poster, Manuscript or abstract presented at the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference
- At least one scholarly article submitted to a national journal preferable JFAS
Program Summary/Training Goals:
- Fellow will gain training from attendings with well over 50 years of combined experience.
- Fellow will obtain mentorship with the director, Mark H. Moss, DPM, FACFAS (over 23 years in practice and over 23 years in training residents in Houston TX)
- Fellow will obtain exposure to the full life-cycle of a patient including Initial patient contact and preoperative evaluation and management, intra-operative/surgical, postoperative management, and discharge from the practice.
- Fellow will experience on a daily basis a hands-on approach to education and training in the clinic, surgical arena, and hospital settings.
- Fellow will have their own modified clinic schedule seeing patients side by side (Dr. Moss’s schedule) with Dr. Moss. Dr. Moss will instruct the fellow on how to work-up complicated reconstructive cases and revision cases of the foot and ankle and lower extremity. They will become competent and efficient with “any and all” cases that they will be presented with in private practice.
- The Medical decision making of the fellow will be sharpened over the course of the year to maximize patient outcomes and minimize the risk of complications.

- Fellow will become proficient in interpretation of advanced diagnostics: MRI, CT, US (performed in office), Xray, EMG/NCV (Neurologist works in the practice)
- Fellow will learn the business of private practice (billing, practice management) in a large podiatric surgery group.
- Fellow will be proficient in the management of intraoperative and postoperative complications, management of patient expectations, performance of office procedures, and learn the world of ortho-biologics (PRP, BMAC, IRAP, A2M)
- The end result is to have the fellow attain surgical independence in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, efficiency in seeing patients in the clinic, and set themselves 5 years apart from their colleagues.
