Program Summary/Training Goals:
The purpose of this fellowship is to provide a comprehensive, well-rounded training experience in all aspects of foot and ankle reconstruction, with a specialized emphasis on minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Fellows will gain extensive exposure to advanced surgical techniques, emerging technologies, and evidence-based treatment strategies designed to optimize patient outcomes.
Throughout the 12-month program, education remains the highest priority. Fellows will actively participate in hands-on surgical training, didactic instruction, national and regional educational courses, cadaver laboratories, and other professional development opportunities to ensure continued growth in both technical proficiency and clinical decision-making.
In addition to advanced surgical training, the fellowship is designed to prepare the fellow for a successful transition into private practice. Emphasis will be placed on integrating new technologies into clinical practice while developing a strong understanding of practice management, documentation, coding, billing, and the operational aspects of delivering high-quality foot and ankle care.
The primary goals of the fellowship are to enhance and refine the fellow’s surgical knowledge, technical skills, and clinical judgment while developing confidence and efficiency in the operating room.
Upon successful completion of the fellowship, the fellow will be able to:
- Demonstrate advanced competency in foot and ankle reconstructive surgery, including minimally invasive surgical techniques.
- Develop sound clinical judgment in patient evaluation, surgical planning, and intraoperative decision-making.
- Master comprehensive preoperative and postoperative patient management, including wound care and complication management.
- Improve operative efficiency while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and surgical excellence.
- Gain experience with the latest technologies, implants, and innovations in foot and ankle reconstruction.
- Participate in educational courses, cadaver laboratories, conferences, and research activities to promote lifelong learning and evidence-based practice.
- Understand the principles of documentation, coding, billing, and practice management necessary for successful integration into private practice.
- Develop the professionalism, communication skills, and leadership qualities expected of an independent foot and ankle reconstructive surgeon.
