Research Requirements:
Fellows are required to produce at least one research project for publication and the aim of submitting to and presenting at the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference or presenting at the Diabetic Limb Salvage Conference.
Program Summary/Training Goals:
- To gain advanced training in surgical management of all facets of foot and ankle pathology in an academic center
- To develop the knowledge and experience necessary for the comprehensive evaluation and surgical reconstruction of foot and ankle deformity.
- The opportunity to learn in-depth aspects of limb salvage and its application in foot and ankle deformity correction management.
- Involvement with interdisciplinary relationships between various members of a foot and ankle deformity correction patient’s care including medical, orthopaedic, vascular, plastic, rehabilitation, social work, and nursing teams.
- Knowledge and experience with pathophysiology, clinical / radiographic and musculoskeletal evaluation of foot and ankle deformity, as well as surgical and non-surgical management of axial and appendicular deformities.
- Gaining the principles of clinical research, including biostatistics, experimental design, and outcome studies understanding; as well as providing the ethical and legal aspects of foot and ankle surgery to produce outstanding, compassionate, and well-rounded and ethical fellows at the completion of the program.
