Annual Scientific Conference for Students & Residents

Student and Resident Members Reception
Students and Resident Members, attend this reception to meet and network with:

  • The sponsoring company, who has donated funds to support the future of foot and ankle surgery
  • ACFAS Past Presidents, who have laid the groundwork for your future as a foot and ankle surgeon
  • The ACFAS Board of Directors, the leaders of our professional society of more than 7,800 foot and ankle surgeons
  • Other students and residents from throughout the country


Fellowship Breakfast Fair
Every year, the ACFAS Fellowship Committee hosts a breakfast on the third morning of the conference. Fellowship program directors whose programs have status with ACFAS are present and meet with students and residents to talk about their fellowship programs, what differentiates their programs from all others, and what they are looking for in future incoming fellows. All student and resident conference attendees will be invited to this invitation-only event. Plan to come with questions!

Looking for employment? The ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference is a great place to make needed connections through networking. Don't forget to bring your resume and post it at the ACFAS Job Fair, located outside of the exhibit hall. PodiatryCareers.org will also have a CV expert at the conference to give one-on-one evaluations of your CV to help you represent yourself in the best potential way. Student Annual Scientific Conference Scholarship
Annually, ACFAS plans to provide up to 18 educational grants valued at $1,000 each, to be given to two outstanding podiatric medical students at each of the nine schools. The selected students will receive the $1,000 ACFAS Student Scholarship Award to defray travel expenses, plus a complimentary registration to the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference. This registration is in addition to the one complimentary conference registration granted when a student club submits a poster.

Scholarships, Funding and Support from Regional Divisions
ACFAS Regions provide local support and networking opportunities to ACFAS members and student clubs within their geographic area. They also provide resident poster authors with funds to defray their costs of attending the conference. Poster Exhibits at the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference
Student Clubs have the opportunity to submit poster exhibits highlighting their research to the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference Poster Presentation Contest. A maximum of one poster per ACFAS Student Club may be accepted. Each club who submits a poster receives one complimentary registration to the conference. Cash prizes for winners are as follows:

  • First Place - $1,000
  • Second Place - $700
  • Third Place - $500


The deadline for submission of the poster abstract by the student clubs is extended. Check with ACFAS staff to hear the current year's deadline.

Manuscript Competition
ACFAS Manuscript Awards of Excellence winners will divide $10,000 in prize money from a generous grant given to the College by the Podiatry Foundation of Pittsburgh.

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically. Detailed information regarding manuscript requirements and policies is printed in the “Call for Manuscripts” and “Instructions for Submitting a Manuscript.” It is important that the author(s) carefully read these two documents before submitting a manuscript.

Manuscripts must be submitted by the advertised deadline to be eligible for review by the Committee.
